Design Problem

Have you dreamt of having the ability to use your medical/recreational marijuana without burning your hands or lips? Tired of wasting the joint you're smoking just because it doesn’t have a filter and it's getting down to the end. The CLIP comes in hand to hold the end of a joint, so you don’t burn your fingers or lips when smoking the last of that sweet joint, and no product is wasted.

Solution

The CLIP is a protective, two part, device that which allows the user to hold a joint, blunt, or cigarette, while smoking. My goal was to develop an apparatus that could be used to securely hold your joint or blunt and smoke it all the way to the end with no fear of burning yourself or wasting any of the product. The clip is a two part mechanism which consist of a pair of tweezers and a silicon slider which applies treasurer to the tweezers holding them in place and securely around you chosen method of smoking. This allows for a smooth and safe smoking 
experience.

Problem Statement

The Clip was created by marijuana enthusiasts who were tired of wasting the end of their blunts and burning the end of their fingers. When you do that you waste money and herb. Other options on the market may allow you to smoke all of the herb, but they change the texture of the smoke or the quality of the high. The options that do not change the quality or texture were uncomfortable, unsteady, and unsightly. 

Target Audience

The Clip's primary target audience is marijuana smokers. This is relevant because this issue is widespread among marijuana users. Marijuana is also one of the most expensive herbs that is smoked, so most users would like to minimize waste. This is also relevant because marijuana popularity is increasing as more and more states legalize it. The Clip's secondary target audience is all smokers. We believe this is a household tool that all smokers should have in their home. Whether you are using the clip to smoke tobacco or marijuana; it is a useful tool.

Fitted with a sturdy rubber coated handle for holding and tips designed to hold the marijuana cigarette firmly in place. The Clip prevents burns, looks stylish, and is built to last a lifetime. The Clip allows marijuana enthusiasts to enjoy all of the herb they purchase without trying to burn themselves getting to the last crumb.

Affordable- Users only purchase it one time and it is meant to last a lifetime. One purchase of The Clip and you will be saving money each time you use it. 

Stylish- There is nothing worse than being out with friends and you pull out an old tweezer and expect people to share the marijuana cigarette with you. The Clip allows you to save money, prevent burns, and look cool. The Clip will be released in many different themes and colors for users to choose from.

Elevator Pitch

Don't you hate when you get to the last inch of the herb and you want to keep smoking, but you value your lip skin? Yeah, me too. You need The Clip. Its a product I designed that helps us avoid burning our lip when the marijuana cigarette gets too low. I was tired of changing the taste and texture of the smoke with filters and a bowl so I came up with this. They only cost ten dollars, you should pick one up. They come in several colors and will last forever. Pick up The Clip today if you are tired of getting burnt and wasting your herb.

Scenario A

Jim is 85 years old and lives alone on Colorado. He is a war veteran and suffers from PTSD, which stops him from maintaining a job. Jim had to quit his job and rely on disability benefits provided to him by the government. Although Jim has health insurance provided by the government, they will not cover his medical marijuana; the only thing that prevents him from reliving staggering memories of his war days. Jim tries to save everything he can on his fixed income, and he tries to use all of his medical marijuana, down to the last bud. Jim has tried to buy filters in the past, but he cannot seem to keep up with the cost of reordering filters every month. Jim has also purchased a roach clip in the past, but they are too narrow for him to hold on to. Jim now saves all of his cigarettes that are too small in order to create one large one when they are big enough. Jim doesn’t mind this method, but the herb can get stale quickly.Jim buys the clips and likes it because he is able to hold on to The Clip easily and he can now finish his cigarettes.

Rationale A

For this user the biggest advantage to using the clip is the sturdiness of the handles and being able to smoke the full cigarette instead of saving small ones until they are large. Saving money is crucial to Jim, and since buying filters every month would not work, perhaps The Clip will because it is a onetime purchase.

Scenario B

Andre is 26 years old and he loves to party. He lives with his parents and he works at the local fast food restaurant three days per week. While he does not make a lot, he likes to spend his money on medical marijuana and hates when he has to throw away the marijuana cigarette because it gets too hot. Andre found The Clip at his local dispensary and he uses it on a daily basis so that he will not burn himself.

Rationale B

For this user the biggest advantage is The Clip’s ability to allow Andre to enjoy the cigarette without him burning himself. Since he does not have a lot of money, he wants to make the most out of his herb.

Final Decision

The final design Combines usefulness with sleekness. The grip allows users of all abilities to hold on to its sturdy design, all while keeping the integrity of the product the user is smoking. The Grip stops unnecessary burns and allows the user to diminish waste of the product they spend hard earned money to buy.
